Cougar Reading- This week we will practice the reading strategy of synthesizing using award winning picture books such as Fly Away Home by Eve Bunting and Grandfather Twilight by Barbara Berger. Synthesis is the process of taking pieces of information and combining them create an oveall meaning. Students will think about how their ideas and understanding of a story changes as characters, details and plot twists are revealed!
Reading- This week we will read literature about the famous scientest Benjamin Franklin and learn about his many inventions and break throughs in the field of science. We will also take a walk on the wild side as we read a humorous science fiction story Robot Cat.
Math- In math we will practice mental subtraction strategies as we use a hundred chart and counting by tens to solve math problems.
Writing- We will begin the week by learning about possessive nouns and then we learn about, sing about and read about friendly letters!
Science- The students will learn about life cycles of given animals
