Cougar Reading- The students will participate in a parts of speech review this week as we create Christmas Mad Libs.
Reading- The remainder of December will be devoted to benchmarking and Diblels testing, so we will not have small group reading for the rest of 2012. In whole group reading, the students will participate in a literature study of the Junie B. Jones novel Jingle Bells Batman Smells by Barbara Park. We will apply the comprehension strategies of making connections, creating images, inferencing, and synthesizing as we read. We will conclude this study by analyzing the character traits of Junie B. and her arch nemesis May!
Math- In math we are working on the skill of regrouping when adding two digit numbers. We love to carry the one to the tens side of the equation! So exciting!
Writing- We will continue to learn about the Writing Trait of Voice this week as we read various picture books and identify first and third person point of view in texts. We will also write a story from the point of view of a reindeer this week.
Social Studies- This week we will identify types of landforms and label a map of the United States. We will also identify the countries in North America, and the name the seven continents and five oceans.
