Reading- Our new theme Every Drop Counts partners nicely with Earth Day which will be celebrated on Sunday, April 22nd. Our non-fiction story Gugu's House and fiction story Splash touch on the need to conserve water in order to care for planet earth. The students will also practice the comprehension skill of pausing and reflecting on given portions of a text as a means for analyzing what we have learned.
Spelling- This week we will spell verbs with the -ing ending. For long vowel words remember to drop the "e" and add -ing. Example: bake + ing= baking
For short vowel words remember to double the final consonant. Example: mop+ing=mopping
Cougar Reading- Homophones and homonyms will be explored this week as we define them, compare them, and create a Homophone and Homonym Joke Book full of humorous word play.
Math- On Monday April 16th we will take our Topic 14 math test and than begin our Topic 15 unit on Measurement as we learn to measure in inches and centimeters this week.
Writing- We will be writing informative and persuasive paragraphs about the issues of animal endangerment, water conservation and air pollution as we learn about Earth Day.
Science- This week we will define the words "hypothesis", "materials", "procedure", "observations" and "conclusion" as we learn about the Scientific Method and conduct some simple experiments in the classroom.
